As we announced, the second annual International Packraft Film Festival will make one of its stops here for the first time. You’ll be able to watch a total of 17 short packraft films from around the world during the fall packraft meetup at Sluneční zátoka on the banks of the Sázava River. The festival takes place from spring through winter all over the world.

You don’t even have to be ten years old to set off down the Vltava in a packraft. On your own, that is – alone in the boat. But how do you go about it? A bit of preparation is a good idea. I certainly wouldn’t recommend acting as a spotter, putting a child in the boat at the first opportunity and sending them downstream, or throwing them into the turbulent waters of a weir.
Packrafts aren’t just for lone adventurers disappearing into the wilderness somewhere up north—they’re also perfect for families with kids and their classic summer outings. A packraft for two or three people is a bit heavier and bulkier, but we’re still talking about a package weighing around 6–7 kilograms that fits
It turns out that water isn’t really about how much of it is flowing or how loudly the rapids roar. It’s more about how the fire blazes and who’s sitting by it. And that’s exactly what the inaugural May meetup on the Salza was all about. There was just enough water flowing that it didn’t reek of adrenaline, but rather of a beautiful, gentle cruise.
