Inflating the packraft is a matter of minutes. You can use an inflatable bag or even a pocket pump. How to do it?

Valve

Before inflating the packraft, you need to assemble the valve, which is supplied separately and consists of a one-way valve, a two-way valve, a gasket and a ring. First, put the gasket on the valve. Then fit the ring over the gasket. Finally, close both valves.

Caring for the valve

  • Keep the valve clean.
  • Always make sure that there is no sand or other dirt in the thread, for example.
  • Make sure the seal is firmly seated in the valve.
  • To prevent loss of individual valve parts, always make sure that the O-rings on the bottom of the valve and the cap are in the correct places.

Inflation using an inflatable bag

  • Unscrew the main valve body and screw the thread of the inflation bag into the hole.
  • Open the bag and let it fill with air. In an outdoor environment, a light breeze will help to get more air into the bag, but is not necessary. Air will enter the bag by simply opening it, only in smaller amounts.
  • Close the bag by rolling and gradually squeezing the bag to push air into the hull. Repeat the process until the packraft is about 80% inflated (about 10 repetitions depending on the type and size of packraft).
  • Unscrew the bag and quickly close the two-way valve.

The bag alone is not enough to inflate the packraft as it is not able to exert sufficient pressure. The final inflation of the boat should always be done by mouth or with a manual pump.

  • Unscrew the top cap of the two-way valve and inflate the packraft.
  • The top of the valve is one-way and therefore prevents air from leaking back out of the boat.

The maximum recommended pressure is 0.08 BAR / 1.2 PSI. Simply put, the hull must be sufficiently strong after inflation.

Before using the boat, we recommend to temper the packraft first. Putting it on the water for a few minutes will usually cool the air in the packraft and therefore reduce its volume and pressure. Then inflate the boat so that the pressure in the boat stabilizes.

Inflation by electronic pump

To inflate the boat with the electric pump unscrew the entire valve. Insert the appropriate pump valve into the valve and inflate the boat. After removing the pump, you must quickly screw the valve back on and allow for air leakage from the valve. You can also inflate just by removing the top cap of the valve. In this case, the boat will inflate more slowly and with more pump energy, but the valve will not leak when the pump is removed.

Also in this case it will be necessary to make the final inflation of the packraft by mouth or hand pump (see higher).

Optimal "inflatable" setup for the field

We got used to going out into the field with a small pocket-sized electronic pump Max Pump 2 ProThe Packraft inflates in minutes at a fraction of the battery capacity. So it's good for the next day, or you can use it as a light or charger in the evening. If you're not totally chasing grams, or maybe you're planning on using your car, try MAX Boat PumpIt can handle pressures up to 1.7 PSI.

Pro finální dofouknutí bereme s sebou ještě malou ruční pumpičku, pokud tedy nehoníme gramy. Pokud ano, vystačíme si v pohodě s vlastním dechem. Pomocí ruční pumpičky můžete díky její delší hadici dofouknout pohodlně packraft také během plavby bez nutnosti vysedání z lodi. Hand pump link..

However, we always take an inflatable bagYou never know when electronics might betray you - air trapped in the bag is just a sure thing.

Practical advices for every packrafter

  • This is the machine we needed. An electric pump that inflates a packraft in under two minutes! With Flextail we have been inflating our packrafts since the very beginning, but the new MAX Pump 3 is even more powerful than its counterpart. It can deliver up to 500 litres per minute at 5 kPa and you can really inflate your boat with it.

  • Trying out any of our models is no problem at all. Just call us, pick up and get started, for example, in the canal in Český Vrbný. This week Michal and Jitka came by and had a great time with Eddy and Tramp packrafts.

  • With kids, packrafting takes on another awesome dimension. Whether you go on an adventure on calm water or on a river, it's always worth it. The problem kids have in packrafting is that they have a hard time reaching the water through the wider tubes with a kayak paddle. If they're learning to paddle on, say, a calm
